The U.S. Mission in Nuku’alofa, is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Economic Assistant in the Political/ Economic Section.
Position Title: Economic Assistant
Salary: TOP T$26,619 – TOP T$42,592 /Per Year
Qualifications: Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience in foreign policy, politics, economics, science, or international relations. Experience in drafting memos, policy papers, analytical research or similar.
Duties: Perform economic research, summarize and/or translate substantive documents, draft substantive reports, analyze press reports, and summarize trends and interpret as required. Briefs the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission, Economic Chief, and visiting U.S. officials on trends in these areas, and offers policy guidance on U.S. engagement. Prepares and deliver demarches and diplomatic notes to host nation Governments. Provides spot reporting and in-depth analyses and other Congressionally-mandated reporting in area of responsibilities. Draft correspondence and diplomatic notes for the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission, and Economic Officer and other embassy offices as required. Develops, maintains, and effectively utilizes an extensive range of high-level contacts, carry out these reporting and analytical tasks. Require an understanding of local conditions and U.S. priorities, collects and provides U.S. policy makers and other U.S. officials with the information they need to effectively advance U.S. policy. Works with minimal supervision, exercises good judgement, and critical thinking, and has excellent writing and analytical skills. Maintains information files and databases, works with the Management Section to process vouchers, procure supplies and arrange logistics for visits, travel and appointments. May assist other offices as staffing needs required, including but not limited to consular duties.
